Sam’s Big Motor Flight

31.12.09: On Saturday the 12th of this month, Sam had his longest motor flight to date. Successful launch into a light NE wind and climbed for 5 minutes before carb icing affected performance. After a minute of ‘rough’ full throttle, Sam eased off and headed back. Wind was stronger at altitude and Sam’s progress into wind was slow. Calculated height gained over the 5 minute climb to roughly 380ft, this equates to 76ft/min climb rate. I had two attempts at getting airborne but rotor and a tight launch area resulted in both attempts being aborted.
